The Senior Ryder Cup team just completed what can only be
described as a dream season with a Championship win on September 5th at Devil’s
Pulpit G C. The team amassed 83 out of a possible 96 points in the regular
season followed by 22 out of 24 in the playoff round and in the
Championship round. The 22 points in the Championship round was not enough for
an outright win so a 2 player playoff was required which Whitevale won on
the first playoff hole. Players on Championship day were Mark Brewer, Barry
Cattarall, Bernie Docking, Dec Dunn, Cam Hreljac, Kevin Hughes, Mike McGarragle
and Dave Walker. Other team members who played during the season were Bob
Doyle, Peter Lambrinos, Walt Lemon, Bob Nebel and John Trimble. This prestigious event is the senior equivalent to the
George S Lyons provincial championship which Whitevale has won 5 times. There
were 124 golf courses represented at the start of the season reduced to 16
teams for the Championship. This was Whitevale’s 5th season in the
Ryder Cup and its’ first win. Five of this year’s Ryder Cup team members also have
their names on the George S Lyons trophy. Congratulations to the Senior Ryder Cup team who have once
again made all members proud to say they belong to Whitevale!
